Prospective Land + Church + Family
After 10+ hours of traveling by plane & car, we finally made it to Iganga! Our first full day in country, we met with our Director - Pastor Dan, his wife - Monica, Secretary - Julius, Treasurer – Dan, and Coordinator – Bonny. There were many heartfelt moments as the team shared how The Mawanda Project began as a small thing and how it finally became a reality that Michelle has returned to Uganda after many years. We discussed the agenda for the week, rested, and made plans later in the day to visit the land we are looking to purchase to expand MD Standard School.
After driving approximately 10 min on both paved and bumpy roads, we arrived at our destination. An 8 minute walk, lead us to 2 acres of prospective land where we walked the perimeter and learned more about the surrounding area, local community, and construction plans.
Sunday morning we woke up and headed to Discipleship Family Church at 10am! Service began with joyful worship and praise, new member introductions, testimonies, and then Pastor Dan gave us the opportunity to each introduce ourselves. Michelle then shared a message about God’s faithfulness followed by additional music and dance, offering, and Pastor Dan preaching about God giving strength to the weary and increasing the power of the weak (Isaiah 40:29). Church concluded with Pastor Dan and Pastor Fred praying for any and all individuals who wanted prayer. Heading outside, we were greeted by a group of kids who were VERY eager to meet us.
Later in the afternoon, we had the opportunity to visit Pastor Dan’s home and see the progress they’ve made in building the infrastructure of their new house. With still more work to be done, the Mawanda Family chose to move into this new place in order to save money on rent and to begin establishing new relationships within this local community. We sat in the sitting room, walked through each of the bedrooms, and passed through the future Mawanda Project office where the maize to feed MD Standard School is currently stored. We were excited to see the start of a new borehole that will provide water to the Mawanda Family and the entire community once completed.
Our day concluded with a trip to Kigulu Hill Primary School where we visited Jesse, Pastor Dan & Monica’s youngest son. It was great to see their whole family together!
